Description

186-1 Esso oil set up warehouse and gas pump at Portage Ave & Elevator Road. Hans Angel looked after these facilities plus his garage on Roblin. 

186-2 1945 Esso built a garage & Vin Murray sold their products. Esso later moved a building beside the garage and Vin & Amy turned it into a home. Located at the end of payment on Portage Ave so many people came out for a Sunday drive. Made 10 cents profit per gallon. Many local for good repairs. Sold in 1952. 

186-3 1952 Earl & Claire Thompson bought the Esso business. Earl worked long, hard hours and soon became well knownc in the area as a good mechanic. They first lived in the small house but later built a new home on Simmons St. In 1965 they sold the business. 

186-4 John Keough lived all of his life in Headingley. He started first in coal & wood sales and then was in B.A. warehouse business for 35 years. Moved into garage until in the 1960's built & operated the gulf garage at Portage & Manitoba St. Sold to son Jim which later sold to the Loch family. 

186-5 Bill Britton built a gas & oil business with delivery to farms in the forties. Built a home next door on Roblin Blvd across from Rodney St. Sold to the Pierce family.
